DTR Systems was established in the 1980's as an independent ATE company named AQL. During its life time its products have mainly revolved around cable, harness and backplane testing. It has sold to many blue-chip companies including BAE, IBM, Marconi, Rolls Royce, Siemens and Goodrich.

DTR testers have been used to test many commercial, industrial and military products.

The commercial and industrial products have included train braking systems, taxi vehicle wiring and fuse boxes.

The military products include the Eurofighter engine control wiring, the Spearfish torpedo internal cable looms and slip ring assemblies for gun turrets.

The company has in most cases sold turn key solutions whereby the tester has been sold with interface wiring and application programs. One example is the three systems supplied to Goodrich to test the engine injection wiring on the Eurofigher. The tester not only runs high voltage insulation and low voltage continuity tests but it also controls an oven and vibration table. Each engine assembly is shaken, temperature cycled and continuously tested over a twenty four hour period.

DTR Systems has pioneered many innovations including a distributed  tester for backplanes and cable assemblies stretched over large distances.

The company offers flexible service and maintenance contracts with response times down to 24 hours.
